Flooring: When Will it Arrive?

by BlvdHome

Do you ever wonder how flooring gets from point A to point B? Perhaps you purchased flooring weeks ago and for some reason, it still hasn’t arrived. Or perhaps you purchased it just a few days ago and it’s already here. Why are some products delivered so quickly, while others can take a few weeks? How can you avoid wait times for products? Let’s tackle these questions!

What is the Timeline to Get New Flooring?

Depending on what you purchase, each individual product has its own timeline from being shipped from the manufacturer to arriving at our Distribution Center in Hurricane, Utah. Most carpets we sell are produced in the Southern United States, particularly Georgia. Most flooring companies we order from have large storehouses where they store nearly every style and color of carpet they make. So when that particular product and color is ordered, they can pull it off the racks and send it our way. Similarly, many hard surface floors are stored in these storehouses, and as soon as someone purchases them, they are picked off the racks and put on a truck. Some manufacturers have other storehouses in places like Denver or Los Angeles, which are much closer to us here in Utah. If your product is located at one of these warehouses, it is likely to get here a little quicker than if it were to come all the way from Georgia.

Once the delivery trucks leave those storehouses, it heads to a number of different places. Most companies have processing centers in Salt Lake City, Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada, where the product is sorted and put onto another truck that heads to very specific locations, like our Distribution Center. Once your product is received, we tag it with your name, and it is at that point that you are able to either pick it up or be scheduled for install.

For the most part, the shipping and distributing of products is seamless and easy. However, there are a couple of things that could come up that may delay the arrival of your product. These trucks full of product travel thousands of miles year-round and sometimes, they break down. During the winter months, weather delays may prevent products from getting to point A to point B. Nonetheless, we will do our best to track the product and give you the most up-to-date ETA possible.

Where are Flooring Products Made?

Wide shot of cargo shipsAlmost all carpets are made domestically here in the United States. Manufacturing plants exist throughout the American Southeast, particularly in Georgia and South Carolina. Most carpets come in rolls that are 12 feet wide and some can be as long as 150 feet. That’s 1800 square feet in just one roll! Each carpet is made with its own specific dye lot. This means each batch of carpet that’s produced has its own particular hue, which is why it’s important to do all of your carpet in one go. Even the same carpet produced on different days can end up in different shades! Once that carpet is made, it leaves the mill and either heads to a storehouse where it waits to be purchased or it’s sent directly to us here at BlvdHome, ready for installation.

Tiles are made throughout the world, particularly in China, Spain, Italy, and even Brazil. Recently, the United States and Mexico have seen a large tile manufacturing boom. However, most tile manufacturers have large quantities of tile in stock in the United States. So if you order a popular tile, odds are it’s already somewhere in the US, waiting to be shipped. But be aware that some tiles need to be made, which can mean long wait times as we wait for the product to arrive from other countries. Luxury Vinyl, laminate, and hardwood are produced in many different places. China, Vietnam, and Cambodia produce the majority of the product. That product comes to the United States millions of square feet at a time, and it is stored in these massive storehouses previously mentioned.
