Murphy Bed Options

by BlvdHome

Everyone wants a beautiful and comfortable guest bedroom, but not everyone has the room. What piece of furniture takes up the most space? The bed. Create more space by using a murphy bed! There are 3 options of murphy beds: wall beds, wardrobe beds, and cabinet beds. But what’s the difference between them? Let’s find out!

Wall Murphy Beds

Open living space featuring an unfolded murphy bed

Built-in wall murphy beds are the most common type of murphy beds. These are built into the wall and usually immovable.

Pros

You can build this bed to fit any size of mattress you’d like. If the bed is built deep enough into the wall, you can keep the sheets and blankets on the mattress!

Cons

If your murphy bed is built into the wall, it cannot be moved. This can be inconvenient if you want to rearrange the room or if you are moving and want to take it with you.

Wardrobe Murphy Bed

Think wall bed… just not built-in. Wardrobe beds are a great alternative to wall murphy beds because they can be moved.

Pros

These beds can be moved, which is great if you like to redesign rooms or move frequently.

Cons

If the bed isn’t securely attached to the wall, it has the potential to fall and hurt someone. It protrudes from the wall so if you don’t like that look, this may not be the option for you.

Cabinet Beds

There are so many awesome benefits that come with using a murphy cabinet bed. These are perfect for anyone who needs extra space, likes to redecorate, or just wants an alternative to a guest bed that is rarely used. To learn everything you need to know about cabinet beds, watch our video.

Pros

These cabinets are 63.5 in. wide and 23.7 in deep. They aren’t very heavy and can be easily moved by 2 people. Under the main cabinet, there is a drawer perfect for storing pillows and bedding. It also has 2 built-in outlets and 2 USB ports; perfect for charging your phone! These cabinet beds come in many, many colors! To see all the color options watch our video!

Cons

To keep the cabinet light and thin, the mattress is 6 in. thick. Since it is slim, it will break down more quickly than a regular mattress. These cabinet beds only come in a queen size. You can’t store any pillows, linens, or blankets in the cabinet with the mattress; thankfully, there is that bottom drawer where bedding can be stored.
